Support your local artist and small businesses.

That's not just a catch phrase or trendy concept folks. The global economic crisis we are all in is not some fluke cause by the shenanigans the banking and real estate systems created. No, quite simply it was a build up of generations of neglect for quality craftsmanship and appreciation of the man made object and locally produced food and services. All because corporate interests were able to dish out cheap, labor exploitative, environmentally destructive products. Everyone who buys cheap, slave-labor products without abandon is not only contributing to the problem but making life untenable for millions of Americans, including themselves. When we conceived Paupers Art Guild, it was not only to bring art into what is essentially an art desert, but to truly expose artists to the public and have the public appreciate art. The 22 fine artists that are part of the Holiday Show work hard and long hours to create their art, so the truest appreciation would be to actually support them for their efforts in keeping our country from becoming a complete cultural wasteland.  Far too many people are jumping on the "buy local" and "support arts & crafts" bandwagon this year. I find it odd when multi-billion dollar international corporations use that tag line (with caveats of course). If you really want to support local and small businesses and want to see quality human made, skill driven objects of art, come see the Holiday Artstravaganza. We are open until Dec. 21st.

Buy some art!

Or Sam will be ANGRY!!!!!!!! Seriously folks, we had a ridiculously AWESOME opening weekend, there were over 200 people at the reception alone. Lots of good art was sold, but there is a great deal more! We are here until Dec 21st, so come by and tell your friends, co-workers, family, neighbors, doctors, local officials, congregation, newspapers and everyone you know that Paupers Art Guild is the ONLY place in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs to buy quality, affordable, locally made art that will make unique and memorable gifts that matter. Forget cheap, corporate, slave made crap and support local artists and small businesses this Holiday Season.

To err is human. . .

. . .to save the day is divine! Thus a lesson learned, that even a veteran can have a lapse of cognitive capabilities and TOTALLY forget he arranged to pick up the model from the train stop on his way to the studio. Thankfully our incredible Janet saved the day and filled in for an hour while yours truly raced back 15 miles to pick up Ciara and race back again! What was shaping up to be a near disaster ended up being a spectacular night in which everyone got to work from two different models in the same session! What a way to end the drop-in sessions for the year. We will restart in February at some point (at the mercy of  this arctic weather though). Thanks to EVERYONE who participated in our drawing sessions throughout 2014. Now all attention is on our Holiday Artstravaganza opening on black Friday, November 28th at 12 noon and going until Saturday, December 20th. Come check out the art of our 22 participants and buy gifts that matter for your friends and family!

My, what an EXQUISITE evening!

Oh lordy loo! Even we veterans make errors on occasion, in this particular case we had set our model Ciara in (what should have been) an easy and comfortable pose. HOWEVER, it must be duly noted that she is MUCH taller than anticipated, thus rendering the puny couch we have woefully inadequate to hold her anatomy in any comfortable reclined position, so she had to keep dramatically shifting throughout the evening so as to not fall right off the thing! That being said, it actually challenged everyone in attendance to shine and there was some great work pulled out. Next week, she will be in a much more comfortable (and therefore non-moving) position! A half dozen of us stayed afterwards and had fun with an exquisite corpse exercise. Next week we will end the year's model sessions in style! Wait to see what that's gonna be! Then is all prep for the Holiday Artstravaganza, 22 artists, hundreds of work, 25 days, opens on Black Friday, more to come soon!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS !

We welcomed a whole slew of new Guild Members to Barry's incredible 2 week standing pose. Seeing multiple activated muscle groups in tension made MY shoulders and back hurt! We have one more 2 week pose starting Thursday with the amazing Ciara, before we take drop-in drawing sessions off line for the holidays, but will reconvene late February!
