Man, I guess I can be a slave driver at times! What an amazing printmaking workshop this past weekend. Everyone came in and produced some killer work in stencil, linocut and monotype. Great conversation, good food, lots of laughs an relatively little mess! Seriously impressive efforts from all participants, we couldn't have asked for better results. Emotion trumps rational thought

That's the conclusion we came to last night. Seriously. That is the only explanation, for who would cut off their nose to spite their face? Well, another checklist of things we never thought possible has come to be. Poor Lucifer, he so must be freezing down there.

 

 

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

That's what Gandhi said. "Indomitable will" is the key attribute that makes all artists continue in the face of seemingly impossible odds. Why? Quite simply because what we do, what we strive for is pretty much the basis for humanity. There is nothing without art; just animal instinct. Everything we have and take for granted stems from the initial spark that is the artistic process. Art is the ability to articulate abstract thought. Technology is the attempt to make concrete those abstract thoughts. The written word is a way to document it, law is a way to govern it, civilization is a way to collectively benefit from it. The instant we lose our artistic drive is the instant our species future ends. Just for the record.

For Hell hath frozen over. I mean that's what we've always been told was the prerequisite for the Cubs winning the World Series. Thanks Ricketts Family for going out of your way to prove your compatriots right, for after last night, there is no need to ever talk about climate change again! AWESOME! Free Market Capitalism saves the world again! Truth be told, the game last night could not have been scripted better, it was literally a sports movie cliche moment. The 15 of us athletically disinclined decided to spend our evening drawing the amazing Lindsey Marks in one of her incredible Burlesque outfits. It was the first of three sessions, so just wait and see how the work develops in the upcoming posts. Welcome new Guild member Nancy!
